The dates are set. Now it is a matter of getting in front of a computer and hoping for luck. Some 120,000 tickets may sound like plenty, but for Oasis’s return to Italy after 17 years, they suddenly seem very few.
Liam and Noel—alphabetical order, to keep them from falling out before they return—will play Rome’s Stadio Olimpico on July 29 and 30. The clues were already there: a drone show above the stadium and, before that, a Vespa making its way through the narrow streets of Trastevere.
Tickets will cost between €90 and €280. Anyone hoping to buy must register on oasisnet.com by Thursday. Selected applicants will then receive a code, purchase instructions and an allotted time to buy. No online queues, then, for a return that has been awaited since February 2009.
Back then, Oasis played five concerts in Italy, finishing in Florence with a sold-out show—but one with just 8,000 places. A different world. They closed, as they often did, with “I Am the Walrus,” a tribute to the Beatles and, above all, a collective ritual.
